Our sustainability vision

We present to you all the efforts made by DASSY at present to assume its social responsibility. What do we stand for? How do we develop and produce our products? Who makes our workwear? And where is all this done? These are the questions that are being increasingly directed to us, and rightly so. Therefore, we would like to give you an idea of what corporate sustainability means to us.

Our ambition

Planet: we strive for a circular clothing industry. We actively work on developing solutions to reduce our emissions and we eliminate harmful chemicals and unsustainable materials from our production process.

People: safety is always our top priority. Safety for the users of our workwear, safety shoes and accessories. And safety for all the stakeholders we interact with throughout the supply chain.

Prosperity: we work day in and day out to create an ethical, transparent and fair industry. That is the only way forward.

And lastly, we believe the only way to achieve these goals is through partnerships. By working with the right partners and establishing lasting relationships with our stakeholders, we will increase our chances of success and deliver on our promise. Goal by goal, one action at a time.

Sustainable Development Goals

Doing business sustainably, with attention to people and the environment, is essential today and can no longer be seen as an optional responsibility. What is DASSY doing in this area? Our actions in this area are carried out within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) developed by the United Nations. The SDGs consist of 17 goals linked to 169 targets. Together, they form an action plan to put the planet back on course toward sustainability.

Below we highlight the goals on which we have a direct impact and we also explain the specific actions taken by us.

For us, nothing is more important than the good health and well-being of our employees, customers and stakeholders. Whether it involves our products or work environment, we believe in putting our best foot forward to meet the SDG 3 targets.

Working safely in sometimes dangerous conditions – that’s our goal. With our clothing, we protect every professional from workplace risks. This is why we resolutely opt for excellent, high-quality materials. For example, we only work with raw materials with the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 label: every component of our clothing is produced by our suppliers without using any harmful substances. Our clothing is therefore fully OEKO-TEX® certified. As a result, we also comply with the European Union’s REACH regulation, which sets out strict rules regarding the use of chemicals. This is because we want to protect the skin and health of every person who wears our clothing.

Moreover, the well-being of our employees is our highest priority, and we ensure this through our healthy and inspiring working conditions. For this, we pay attention to the maintenance of our machines, medical care, protective equipment for our employees, ergonomics, etc.

Social compliance is a very important KPI for us. We safeguard both human rights and labour rights because our employees are our most valuable asset. We are aware of the risks prevalent in our industry and we have the necessary knowledge and tools to deal with them. Our due diligence and HR policies help us ensure a better clothing industry. Besides the relevant policies and a code of conduct, we also have a grievance system at our production centre in Sri Lanka, strict controls on our working conditions, training programmes, etc.

In addition, over the years, our GP Garments production centre has been able to add several important certificates and awards to its list of honours, such as the annual Garments without Guilt certificate, the Amfori BSCI certification and the Social Dialogue & Workplace Cooperation Award.

All forms of clothing production have an impact on our planet. Naturally, it is no different in the case of DASSY. We take responsibility for this and continue to improve. At DASSY, we think carefully about ways to minimise our ecological footprint. In addition, we appeal to the awareness among employees regarding such issues and involve them in our sustainability efforts.

Here we share with you some specific examples of our efforts that contribute to responsible production. In both Bruges and Sri Lanka, we have our own recycling park. We also use specific IT systems to optimise our stock levels to avoid unnecessary production. But above all: when developing our clothing, we always go for the best quality. What’s the essence of responsible production? Workwear that lasts longer! We devote a great deal of time to developing our designs, fabrics and production methods, conducting lab and field tests, performing maintenance activities, etc.

Climate change is one of the greatest concerns of our time. From ‘cradle to gate’ – in other words, from the creation of a product until it leaves our warehouse – our products require energy. They leave a footprint at every step of the production process. We prioritise green practices to limit this footprint, both in our offices and in the warehouse. We do this by committing to green energy.

By 2017, we had already installed 860 m² of solar panels on our roof, i.e. a total of 430 panels, accounting for a capacity of 148 kWp. Today, there are an additional 554 panels or 1108 m², good for a capacity of 216 kWp. There are also plans to install solar panels at GP Garments. We are currently looking into how we can implement this.

In addition, we are replacing our entire vehicle fleet with electric cars, and we offer employees the opportunity to lease an electric or other type of bike. In this way, we encourage them to opt for a bike rather than using their car.

Furthermore, we focus on efficient transportation. For example, all our boxes are made of 100% recycled carton and are passed through a box sealing machine, which ensures that we transport less air. Since 2021, we transport loose-loaded containers from Sri Lanka to Bruges: completely without pallets, foil or plastic straps. In this way, more items can be fitted into a single container, making it more environmentally friendly.

We are convinced that teamwork is the only way to overcome the many challenges. For this, we collaborate with numerous organisations and other companies. Together with our partners Febelsafe, Centexbel, Amfori BSCI, SGS and many other notified bodies, we guarantee that all garments meet the highest industry standards. We are also members of Ellie.Connect , which is a platform that brings together international textile sector players to think about a circular future and to motivate them to work toward this.

Furthermore, we think it is extremely important to build long-term, sustainable relationships with all our suppliers. This is how we create trust and support so that we can work together to improve the sector from within.

We realise that our entire sector still has a long way to go. At DASSY, we assume our responsibility to the fullest extent. We are now at the start of an undoubtedly exciting, but highly complex journey, filled with challenges.
